- Compact Power, Forged to Perform: this hammer is crafted for blacksmiths who prioritize precision in tighter spaces. With a compact 11.81" (300mm) handle, it delivers excellent control while maintaining the striking force needed for small-scale forging, adjustments, and fine work at the anvil.
- Engineered Strength: the head is hand-forged from AISI 1045 steel, hardened and tempered to a Rockwell hardness of ~52–56 HRC. Secured with a steel wedge, it offers durability and resilience through repeated heavy use.
- Oiled Ash Handle: the handle is made from plain oiled ash wood, giving it a natural, ergonomic feel with strong shock-absorbing properties. It’s built for comfort and accuracy during extended forging sessions.
- Personal Touch: customize your hammer with engraving — from names and runes to personal messages. Whether for everyday forging or as a unique gift, it’s a tool that combines craftsmanship with individuality.
HOW WE DO
Hardening:
We preheat the hammer to about 1200°F (649°C). Then we increase the temperature to 1450°F to 1500°F (788°C to 816°C). Quench the hammer in the water.
Tempering:
To reduce the brittleness and increase toughness, tempering is essential. We clean the surface of the hammer to expose bare metal. This helps in monitoring the tempering colours. We heat the hammer in an oven. Aim for a temperature between 400°F to 500°F (trying to get 225°C) for a good balance of hardness and toughness. We hold the temperature for at least an hour per inch of thickness. Then we allow the hammer to cool to room temperature.
Testing and Verification:
After tempering, we test the hammer's hardness using a Rockwell hardness tester. Also, we have a simple rebound test. we strike the hammer against an anvil; it should rebound without chipping or deforming.
